Habitat loss, competition and disease from domesticated dogs, and loss of prey items have put the Ethiopian wolf (Canis simensis) in very hot water. Only three populations remain in the Ethiopian highlands. This species hunts around dawn and dusk and gather in noisy groups in the morning, noon, and evening. Ethiopian wolf cubs are protected not only by their parents, but by other members of the pack, who voluntarily regurgitate food for them.
